What’s Pre-sprouting & is it a Must?

Pre-sprouting is giving your ranunculus corms a head start by planting them up early indoors. It’s NOT a must (especially when you are growing Italian varieties;)

The two main reasons I pre-sprout:

  1. Earlier and longer bloom window = more blooms: Planting pre-sprouted corms (vs. planting corms directly from their package) can extend the amount of time your ranunculus keep pumping out their blooms, lengthening your growing season by 2 - 3 weeks. (Um, yes please, and thank you very much!).

  2. Stronger plants: Starting your plants off in a controlled environment makes them stronger and more established as they head into their growing season. Along with more blooms, it can help the plants weather less-than-ideal growing conditions and can boost resiliency to pests and disease.

If you’re interested in giving it a try… in the next blog post we’ll be sharing our step-by-step pre-sprouting process!
